Objective setting in appraisals

Whilst many managers are on board with the principle of appraisals they can come a bit unstuck when it comes to setting objectives – maybe it just sounds too complicated? Through interactive exercises these training materials explore why and how objectives set as part of the appraisal should be aligned to the appraisee’s job description and should also link to the organisation’s vision, strategy and objectives.

IN THIS MODULE:

  • An activity to identify how organisational objectives link to the individual appraisal.
  • An introduction to SMART objectives and target writing.

AIMS:

  • Recognise the need for objectives.
  • Set SMART objectives.

Time:

45 minutes. If delegates are not familiar with objective setting and making objectives SMART, allow one hour for this module.

Group Size:

Ideally 6-12 people per session. Training material is reusable.

USEFUL FOR:

Those with management responsibility or anyone who is responsible for appraising employees.
