The structure of the appraisal review meeting may vary as it is often driven by the documentation used within the review. Getting the structure of the meeting is vital, otherwise appraisals can become little more than a box ticking exercise – which doesn’t benefit the employee or the company. These training materials are designed to give delegates insight into how to effectively structure review meetings including introductions, exploring the job role, objective/target setting, further development opportunities, timescales and how to summarise the appraisal review meeting. These materials will also equip delegates with confidence to deal with difficult and/or sensitive issues that come up during appraisals.
IN THIS MODULE:
- An activity in pairs to examine how to deal with different issues that an appraisal meeting may bring about.
- A fun activity to look at competencies and performance ratings and how to challenge employees.
- ‘Sitting on the fence’ – an activity that explores why managers tend to give the middle rating and what impact this can have.
AIMS:
- Review the key components and order for an appraisal review.
- Define how to deal with difficult and sensitive issues.

1 hour and 20 minutes.
Group Size:
Ideally 6-12 people per session. Training materials is reusable.
