Aside from ensuring protection from legal claims, organisations are interested in diversity and inclusion because of corporate social responsibility, public perception and accessing (and also retaining) the widest possible talent pool in order to gain competitive advantage. There are many other reasons of course. These training materials explore these reasons that are ‘beyond legislation’ to understand the positive impact diversity and inclusion can have within an organisation.
We suggest purchasing and delivering module 4, the equality act, from this course before delivering this module. This is because the legislation is an important basis for diversity training. However, if you have your own training materials on the equality act/legislation then this module can follow on.
IN THIS MODULE:
- A review on what is diversity and inclusion, as well as discussions on its importance and impact on an organisation.
- A recap on unconscious bias.
- The “More or Less” activity – demonstrating the common biases in our culture and the impact that they might have.
AIMS:
- To recognise the business case for diversity and inclusion.
- To discover or review unconscious bias.
Time:
This exercise should take approximately 1 hour. However, if managers did not attend the employee session on unconscious bias and review the infographic then you will need to allow an extra 20 minutes or allow managers to view this as a pre-course activity.
Group Size:
12 people.
